I currently have group policy mapping drives and doing folder redirect on Desktop, and My Docs. The reasons I noted that I have remote offices, is because it happens to them as well. I really don't think it is a VPN problem, because it is happening even on the laptop connected to the HQ WIFI. I check permissions, they are set correctly. So, I drill to the location, and make sure that I can access it, which I can. Strangely enough, it happens even when I'm connected to the WIFI at HQ network. Then I get the error "This file is currently not available for use on this computer". Problem is: Anything in desktop or my docs gets grayed out with an X at the bottom left of the icon. I've tried microsoft VPN connection as well with the same issue occurring. The laptops connect with a VPN client that is provided by sonicwall (netextender). ( I don't think its relevant to this problem ) However, I have the hardest time with laptop users! I have virtually no problems with this, except a tiny thing where they can't connect to a particular ODBC database. All are VPN'ed into the HQ network to access a couple applications via remote desktop. Most are on their own individual domains, and a couple are in HQ forest. I have one office that we will call HQ, and nine other remote sites. I've been having this issue on my network since I can remember, and I haven't ever really dug into it.
